Alexander Hayne Takes Down Pro Tour Barcelona!
Congratulations to our very own Alexander Hayne for finishing his first Professional year of Magic on such a high note. Not only does he take home the trophy for Pro Tour Barcelona, he gained enough points to win Rookie of the Year and a spot on the Canadian team for the World Cup. Of course, by winning Pro Tour Barcelona, Alex also earns the right to play in the Player’s Championship in August. All of that in one weekend. Oh yeah and he also reached Platinum status…
Congratulations to the rest of Team Mana Deprived. Some of them stayed up all night just to help test Alex’s matchups in the top 8 and the testing ended up being a key factor in Alex’s ultimate victory. The team for Barcelona included:
Adam Yurchick
Daniel Grenier
Daniel Lanthier
David Caplan
Doug Potter
Francis Toussaint
Greg Dolan
Jason Yorgason
Marc Anderson
Matt Mealing
Noah Long
Pascal Maynard
Robert Smith
The Deck
Alex designed the first version of the deck that took home the trophy. Here it is once again:
Hallelujah! by Alexander Hayne

Here is his deck tech video with none other than BDM:

Team Video
Just a day before the Pro Tour, Doug Potter filmed the following video of the team at Barcelona, which apparently included the deck they were planning to bring to the Constructed portion of the tournament.

A lot of people actually messaged me and asked me how I could possibly spoil the team’s tech a day before the Pro Tour. By now, they all know it was nothing but a troll, but Alex did intentionally clue everyone in on the fact that he was on Hallelujah if you watch the video again. Some clever foreshadowing, I must say.
Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

So proud of the canadian team. Great Job Alex

The Hallelujah bit is mind blowing after watching it a second time, I must say. Congrats again, Hayne!
Congrats to team Mana Deprived! Oh Canada!!
What an amazing day! GO ALEX! The video had me I must admit the first time but when I watched it again I realized it was a bit too suspect lol.
PS if Grenier lent you my cards lemme know I want em signed by a pro tour champ (I know I lent him a Tamiyo, Dev Tide, Temporal Mastery and traded for 2 entreats that Jon stern gave Grenier as well) If those were used I also want 10% of the wins lol
So awesome. Very happy for you Alex!!
HALLELUJAH ALEXHALL EH LUJAH
way to go man
Great job! You’re probably my favourite player at the moment, UW control and Canadian! Keep up the great work!
Congratulations. Great to see you finally get the result you’ve worked so hard for.
Congratulations, a great deck in Block, backed up by great play in both Block and Draft. Well done!
Congratulations!
Grats on the huge win and the SICK run.
Congrats man! When I refreshed the page on Sunday afternoon I laughed out loud and shouted “take that!” at the computer. My whole family thought I was nuts.
Take care and be well!

Already post on mtg Quebec … but congratz alex and all the canadian player
Kudos to Alex Hayne. It’s great to see a Canadian take down the PT. It seems that your group has been putting up strong results the past year or two.
I had so much fun getting up early to cheer Alex Hayne. It was truly a miraculous day of MTG!
that was a “miracle”
Congrats Alex and great to put Canada back on the map in the Magic community! Go team Mana Deprived!
WHat a great weekend for Alex and Team Mana Deprived! So proud of everyone involved! I loved reading Twitter feeds with all the cheering on, it really felt like a sports playoff experience watching Alex make his way through the gauntlet of the Top 8. I mean, c’mon, Jon Finkel Round 1!!!
Such a great story!

It is fun to claim your result as a miracle, but we all know it is just reality. I’ve known you for a while and I saw you improve tournament after tournament until this fantastic result. Not only you represent Canada but also Québec which make me even more proud. Congratz!!! Tu récoltes le fruit de tes efforts.
Great job, man!!! Great deck! That was SPECTACULAR!!!!
Kept singing this in my head while watching coverage on Sunday morning:(With apologies to Leonard Cohen)
I’ve heard there was a secret card
That Alex played, and brewed real hard.
But you don’t really care for Magic, do ya?
It goes like this,
Fourth land, the fifth
The turn is passed, he untaps, draws it
A Miracle played just like a Hallelujah.
Congratulations again, Alex!!
Congrats Hayne it was awesome watching the coverage. I wish you the best, and I would be very happy if you or anyone else in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto or Canada to take down another GP or PT tournament.
Cheers,
Stephane Bisson
