The Eh Team #299 – Umezawa’s Jeep

The Eh Team #299 – Umezawa’s Jeep

Jeremey explains the new MTGO Treasure Chests to Jay Boosh. The Eh Team look at the impact of the Treasure Chest announcement on Modern MTGO card prices, along with the odds of the various chest card slots. Jeremey isn’t totally behind vehicles in Limited, but Jay feels that they’re basically Equipment, but better. Josh Krause of Original MTG Art drops by to talk about Magic art with Matt and chat about the latest set of Classic Art Tokens. KYT is impressed with the Modern decks from the recent MOCS results. But really interesting are some of the top 32 lists from last weekend’s SCG Open Indianapolis, the first Standard of the new season. Jeremey describes his forgetfulness problem.

I was just listening to the episode this morning and wanted to comment regarding the part about the Treasure Chests. I’m concerned that when they update the Treasure Chests to include new sets they could do something that could severely damage the MTGO economy. Imagine if Treasure Chests somehow started giving out the expensive curated cards at far higher frequencies simply because values in the table were changed? Given MTGO’s track record it seems likely these mistakes are far more likely to occur than not occur.

Also even if the Treasure Chests are trade-able the play points contained in them aren’t, so bot chains won’t ever crack them (unless they make a mistake with the curated card frequencies). Why couldn’t they replace the 10 play points with 1 ticket etc.?

I think there is a lot of potential in Treasure Chests that allows MTGO to be able to release constructed cards into the public to keep a downward pressure on those prices and Treasure Chests probably will do that to some extent.
