Face to Face Games Toronto Tournament Updates

You might have read our announcement about next year’s FaceToFaceGames.com Tournament Series – but that’s not the only big change coming to the events we run! As some of you already know, since the Toronto store opened last year, we’ve run an Invitational league, rewarding the top players at in-store events with an exclusive free quarterly Invitational with 1k in prizes.

I’m happy to announce a few major upgrades to the Invitational series for 2016 – starting with a new tournament, the yearly Players’ Championship! This will be an exclusive 8-player tournament, featuring each season’s Invitational Champion as well as the season’s Qualifier Points leader. Our competitors will fight across a unique split-format double elimination tournament, with the eventual champion being crowned the Face to Face Games Toronto Player of the Year, a title that grants you free entry into all in-store events for a full calendar year.

The first Players’ Championship will take place Saturday, January 2nd, and will feature a real-life Vintage Masters draft group stage, followed by a cut to a double-elimination Modern top 4. Details on the format and the players will be posted closer to the event. We’ll be posting live coverage and updates on our Facebook page, so stay tuned!

In addition to this, we’re updating the ways in which people qualify for the Invitational. Instead of match points translating directly into qualifier points, various in-store events will now award different amounts of points towards an Invitational entry – much like Magic Online. Long story short, if you win at least 3 matches in a tournament, you’re getting points! Standings are updated after every tournament, and can be found here.

The best way to accumulate points is through our flagship in-store series, the Sunday Showdowns. Competitive events with guaranteed 1k prize pools every week, Showdowns give plenty of qualifier points, as well as an FNMbership – free entry to all daily events for a month – to the champion. We’ve been having great turnouts for all formats lately, and look forward to hosting another year of top notch local events.

Be sure to come out to the December 20th Modern Showdown, which will be an Open Trial for the January 9th Toronto Modern Open!
