What is the Mana Deprived Super Series?

The Mana Deprived Super Series (MDSS) is a Canadian tournament series open to all players, organized and sponsored by Mana Deprived and Face to Face Games.

When and where will the tournaments be held?

Mana Deprived Super Series tournaments will be held approximately every two months in Canadian cities across the country.

What’s the difference between the MDSS and other tournaments?

The Canadian Magic community has been growing exponentially, and there is a high demand for tournaments the nation over. The Mana Deprived Super Series is collaborating with the Canadian Magic Tour to bring players more tournaments during times when there are a shortage of GPs, PTQs, and other big events. While the CMT plans to hold weekly/bi-weekly tournaments, the MDSS is taking a different approach. MDSS tournaments will be held more sporadically, with the winners gaining fame and notoriety in the Magic community, as the results of these events, which will bring in some of the best Canadian players, will be reported on one of the most well-known Canadian sites, as well as through newsletters and articles.

What can I expect at these tournaments?

The Mana Deprived Super Series tournaments will not only have substantial prize pools, but there will also be side events organized throughout the day for any players who do not wish to play in the main event or who have dropped from the tournament. Furthermore, Face to Face Games and other local stores will be on-site buying, selling, and trading cards with players, which makes these events a great way to sell or upgrade your collection. The winner of each MDSS will not only receive a cash prize, but will also receive an exclusive trophy (sometimes awarded by KYT in person), and their picture will be put up on the Mana Deprived web site and news of their tournament win will be spread through newsletters to players across the country! If that isn’t enough, the bounty system is in full force at each event!

What’s the “bounty system”?

The bounty system made its first appearance at the Team Trios event held in Montreal in the summer of 2012. At each of the events, there will be one player who has had local or global success in the game who will be labelled as the “bounty player”. These players are some of the best on the Canadian tournament scene, and are chosen based on past performances. The bounty player will be carrying two (2) booster boxes of the newest set with him (or her) while playing in the tournament, and if successfully beaten during the swiss rounds, will give one booster box to the player who beats them.

What kind of coverage will there be at each tournament?

There will be a more than competent coverage team during each event who will be responsible for uploading the following to the MDSS page found on manadeprived.com:

– Pictures of each event, including top 8 competitors and the winner and their trophy
– Top 8 deck lists
– Written coverage of Top 8 feature matches
– Deck techs throughout the day for unique and successful deck lists

Where can I find coverage/tournament information?

Event coverage and results can be found on ManaDeprived.com and all event details can be found in the MDSS Facebook group, as well as FacetoFaceGames.com.
