Showdown Recap: Legacy

Showdown Recap: Legacy

Welcome to another weekly Showdown Recap, where we take a look at what happened at Face to Face Games Toronto’s weekly Sunday Showdown, a series of 1k events feeding into the Ultimate Showdown 5k Invitational. This week, players battled in Legacy, slinging Brainstorms for the top prize.

Andrew Gordon has swooped out of retirement to take down a Showdown with a bunch of his little green friends. That’s right, the man who couldn’t stop telling everyone how good Food Chain is hung up his Walking Ballistas for Deathrite Shamans. Gordon of course played Elves and prayed on the often-fair Toronto Legacy scene.

Showdown champ Andrew Gordon.

This Top 8 is chalked full of Showdown Series regulars doing some pretty wild things. Edgar Magalhaes has gone off-the-deep-end in a way he only knows how. Edgar cut Force of Will from his 4C Leovold deck in favour of more Hymn to Tourachs and Kolaghan’s  Commands but decided not to add lands after cutting four free spells. Chris Ha took my perfect Leovold list and added Grave Titan to the sideboard and Matthew Dilks is just such gas at lands it’s hard to really take it all in. Gordon’s winning decklist featured to maindeck copies of Nissa, Vital Force, a new piece of spicy Elves technology.

Eldrazi was a big player at this event clearly and put two copies in the Top 8, I think it’s time to play some sideboard cards for this matchup because it’s not going anywhere. Legacy is truly the wild west right now and our Showdown series locals are just inflating that factor with every passing week. I for one, can’t wait for the Team Trios FacetoFaceGames.com Open on Dec. 2 to battle in the Legacy seat!

With his win on Sunday Andrew has qualified himself for the next Face to Face Games Ultimate Showdown and the rest of the Top 8 have started their march toward the top of the Showdown leaderboard. Join us this weekend at Face to Face Games Toronto for where our Showdown will be on Saturday and act as a Last Chance Qualifier for our RPTQ on Sunday. Players will be battling in Modern!
