Medina has been replaced by a different Jon this week, but this one just won a Grand Prix! The Eh Team welcomes Jon Stern to the show for Episode 112, hot off his win at Grand Prix Atlantic City with the Bant Auras deck in Standard. KYT has been so inspired by this, he’s been practising with the Slippery Bogle aura deck in Modern. Jay introduces the rest of the cast to his new fave limited format, Point Draft. Scott shares his experience with Spirit Jund at a Modern FNM. Jon Stern talks about piloting the Bant Auras deck straight to the win at the Grand Prix. Jay grumbles about how he sees the current state of Standard. Scott, though, gets really excited about the Standard-to-be as they look at the last week’s Gatecrash spoilers.

Jay imitating KYT is hilarious. Freaking love it. This new Jon guy is pretty interesting. He’s awesome. I like all of the great input Jon had. All of this is making me want to play some Modern. I have the coronets ready to rumble.
Jay is the master of the random format info. Seriously I get all of my damn alter format info from Jay. I seriously want to try out all these formats he’s talking about. This section is great Jay, keep this shit up. It’s highly entertaining.
I am a huge EDH guy, but my playgroup is very cutthroat. We all are always building the hardest core decks we can. My current Isperia group hug deck was hilarious. Milled everyone out. It was great. Luckily no one at the table had Eldrazi in the decks they ran for that portion.
This new standard deck seems fun as hell. I want to do this. Load up Geist and beat face. 4 Invisible Stalkers as Honey Badger, yup, get there.
I am quite happy for this Gatecrash stuff. Now that they’re all spoiled I am quite happy. I already have my preorders in for all the stuff I am going to use in EDH.
Hey Jay, I am toying with the idea of an EDH cube based on the article from Sean on SCG. Any ideas about making an EDH cube?
When KYT says he’ll look into the Mana Deprived stuff, he really means “Fuck you guys, my shit is awesome”.
Jay, play the bogles. Do it. But don’t give up the alternate format stuff, seriously, it’s great.
And yeah, fuck the reserve list and fuck collectors. Reprint the cool stuff. While playing the Magic game on the ipad, god damn Nicol Bolas has freaking Moxes of every type in new border and new card format. Give it up, let’s do this.

Kerrydan I’ve only noticed it this episode and last episode where I can’t pause, but skipping to different parts of the cast has always been a pain.

Point draft sounds like a great alternative to rochester, which we’ve used in the past for sub-6 man cube drafts. The solution to the ‘who goes first’ seems trivial – have a fixed number of cards for each person, say 45, at which point you grind those last few out and reset with the next person. Points could even be added after each set of 45, with a lower starting total, to enhance the economical difficulty or to act as a ‘come back mechanic.’
@PatrickL First, im glad it sounds good to you, that was the point. Second, it is insane. Third, the who goes first issue isnt an issue and doesnt need a solution. Do you whine in regular draft when someone opens pack rat? armada wurm? and you open shit? no, you dont, you draft a good deck and play fucking magic.

Jay point draft sounds awesome. i frequently host small drafts with my bros at home and often don’t get 8 ppl to show. this seems like a good alternative when that occurs. can’t wait to try it out.
btw, bob getting hit in the face with a stop sign was epic. actually…bob is one of my favorite eh team cast members. maybe he should just permanently replace medina.
