If Jon played that douche bag combo on me then I’d call shenanigans on his ass!
He said he takes off 2 counters to shoot a player and uses the last to kill the Triskelion itself. Unfortunately Triskelion is also pumped by Mikaeus because he is non human and so it needs to use the last 2 counters to kill itself. So at that stage he would be sitting with a 2/2 Triskelion with 1 damage marked on it. 2 toughness minus 1 damage still equalled 1 when I went to school. I guess they didn’t teach math well in Mexico or Medina’s sunday school.
‘Nice attempt, but no cigar, Douchebag!’.
Now that gives everybody else thats playing time to kill him. Hopefully in a way thats equally if not more douche baggy.
P.S. Less Medina – Just Clone Jay in his place. You can never have too much Jay Boosh.
Deadly Devil I’ll bite on the troll-bait.
The combo still works, of course. You just remove 1 (instead of 2) counters from Trike to hit your opponent(s) the first time, then use the last 2 to kill itself. It returns now with 4 +1/+1 counters, so remove 2 to ping, then 2 to suicide, and repeat.
Now, if you’re at the table with Medina, and you wanted to hold him to “no takebacks, you combo-douche!” in a casual format, well, that’s between you, him, and his crossbow!
Kerrydan Deadly Devil Yup well said.
Kerrydan
Of course I know the combo still works. I use it myself (yes I’m a douchebag too)
But you bet your ass if he declared ping 2 then ping trike once I’d say no take backs. That was the whole point of my post. And if Medina didn’t like it I’d hit him until he stopped moving
The textless Cryptic Command-rant was the best!
When is Jay going to write sick casual draft articles for mana deprived?!
So uh, what was he talking about, oh yeah, sharking someone. You got the infamous Sal on the cast this week. That’s freaking fantastic. He sounds like a cool guy. Tooth and Nail Entwine, Mike and Trike, win the game. That’s how we do it. None of this sissy durdle shitty card bullshit. Fucking go for the throat. Jay, I am a douchey blue player, but I have plenty of win conditions in my EDH decks, to play any other way is bullshit stupid garbage. The guy you played sounds like a butthole. The guys that don’t put enough land in there are silly. I will run 39 or 40 mana sources, depending on if I am playing ramp. If I am playing ramp I will usually bring that down a little. Figuring your amount of lands is all about math. You want to have 37 to 39 % land, regardless. I do run Cephalid Colosseum in my Rafiq deck. That Isperia deck sounds like mine. I totally run Isperia like that. A couple creatures, tons of card draw, tons of counters, and funny shit like Jace’s Erasure and Memory Erosion. I am going to run Enter the Infinite now too, I will deck the entire table.
With the fact that the new FNM promo is Reliquary Tower, I need to play the hell out of some standard. Medina breaking it down on the value traders, freaking win. Get them by the balls and break them. Jay beat the shit out of that guy next time, don’t let him rape you. This Burn at the Stake deck sounds hilarious.
I gotta get to Canada so I can play at Face to Face games.
Definitely on the win off of Bob, lean in and say “I fucked your wife”. The line is right after that. None of the “Your wife does all that stuff with me that you wish she would do for you” or “I fucked your wife and your sister at the same time” or “your wife’s ass is amazing”, none of that, those are right out.
Holy shit Kiki-Jiki and Cryptic Command are going way up. The full art is worth less because you can’t remember all the damn shit that it does. There’s like 8 bajillion modes to that fucker, it’s a scientific process to figure out what you want to do. Also by the way, Jace the Mind Sculptor foil is going for $500 right now. What the hell is up with that shit. I am going to buy the shit out of Path to Exile and Remand. I never got rid of any of those. It also sounds like Face to Face is making shit easy on everyone else, they’re using Sal’s buy list.
Aw man more freaking karaoke. I wanna come party, this shit sounds awesome. I can’t wait till Sal runs some event for “99 CENTS!!!!”. Man Sal is awesome. I like that guy. He’s cool as hell. Medina, are you saying Sal is like Mr. T? With like the massive amounts of gold chains.
A Medina run Face to Face games sounds awesome. I will run one from Colorado. Let’s plan the takeover.
I always comment for you fuckers. I am one of the 12. Yeah that’s right.
#moreboosh #moresal #moremedian (yup median) yeah point draft sounds awesome. That shit sounds awesome. However Medina, if I know you’re not on a cast, I know I have to comment even moreso because that show is going to be awesome. (gots ta fuck with ya).
This draft format needs an excel spreadsheet or a fucking visio or some shit. Although I like the “shit pile” keep that term, also “the grid” also a good term. The grid = Tron, freaking awesome.
For prerelease I went Simic and did ok. I got beat by some nuts pulls but did fine otherwise. Dimir and Orzhov wrecked shop though. I ran a 2HG tourney later on in the day. Team up of Dimir and Orzhov was fucking amazing. Extort in 2HG is fucking broken, as is consuming aberration and the Dimir cards.
Great job, great cast guys.
I cant stop wondering which magic player was super deep in Medina.
I was at GP AC and my friend anthony was the guy shopping around his foil Jace, mentioned a guy was only gonna give him 300, and sold it for 375
I got A.Hayne (Duke, Kibbler, Anderson & Marshall) to sign my $2.oo that day =)
BEST (financial) Episode ever
So I went to this Face to Face PTQ in Montreal, and I gotta say, best prize support I’ve ever seen at any PTQ, maybe even any tournament I’ve ever been to. I only went like 5-3 playing an Esper Teachings list, but to my surprise I won 12 packs! S’crazy! Was super happy. Just want to say I love face to face games man, makes me wish I lived in Montreal. I live in Quebec city, and like, probably 75% of the time I need singles, I got to face to face’s website. Awesome prices, selection, service, and delivery speed. I recommend you guys to everyone, in fact, my girlfriend does Card Alters (*cough*alteredMTGcardart.com*cough*) and since she started her website, she’s been recommending to international customers to buy cards they want altered from Facetoface, and have them shipped to us to save money on international shipping instead of shipping their cards in the mail to us from Europe or wherever they are.
and thanks for my Sal tokens.
Anyways, since Sal was on the show, I just wanted to take the opportunity to publicly thank him and Face to Face for being awesome
man, jay’s opening mini-rant was fantastic. out of nowhere “…fucking idiot.” thank god for calling someone on their pronunciation. “how about because that’s not his name.” lol, it kills me on heavy meta when they call silverblade paladin a “paladian” and throw that extra syllable in there. also, “what’s wrong with the French?” Jay: “oh my god we don’t have enough time!” LOL. I similarly enjoyed Jay’s rant about scumbag edh players. hey. lets all play some cards. try to win, but don’t fuck everyone so hard they’re bleeding by turn 3.
Dude having Sal on was sicko. first of all, his “whoa whoa whoa” sounds JUST like KYT’s, lol. its got kind of a dubstep feel to it. GREAT finance section there with Medina and Sal together though. I mean i’m not a collector or shark or speculator or anything that’s going to guy buy shit up because of what i heard, but i always enjoy hearing what’s hot, what’s seeing play, what I can maybe look to trade off out of my binder for max value. great stuff, seriously. i know i always like giving medina shit, but i honestly really did enjoy this section (as well as enjoying Legit’s prices and grading).
hearing you guys hash through different formats is good too. i always like hearing from each person about what they played for the week. its more old school eh team to hear one guy talk about his adventures in edh, then another to talk about the new deck in standard they’re trying, then someone to talk about the meta in modern. i just want to hear a legacy section too. love it though. i don’t get to play a lot (i have 4 kids ages 4 and under) so i like living vicariously through you guys. keep it up. Jay, its also good to hear you enjoying magic again. your stories are the fucking most hilarious shit ever and i like hearing you have a good time playing cards. i mean i’m with you that i kinda hate standard most of the time, but its good to hear you playing constructed. you know how scott says he could listen to marcel read the phone book or whatever and enjoy it? i could listen to you re-live an FNM where all you did was get byes and it would still be hilarious.
also, i’m super excited for the F2F giveaway. a)i love free cards. b)i love supporting cool stores. it almost makes me wish i was canadian…well that and your country’s short immigration lines at the airports (shout out to Heavy Meta).
i agree with scott on buying playsets. i’m gonna end up spending that money anyway, so i’m happy to get a full set of all the utility cards i need or may need in the future. sure some go straight into the box and never come out, but when i decide to try some random new deck idea or a buddy needs some stuff for a casual deck he’s building, its there and i dont have to worry about a)do i have it, b)how long is it going to take to get here and do i really want to pay $2 shipping for $2 worth of cards, c) when do i have the time to get down to my small town lgs and does he have the cards.
also, my store isn’t big enough to have draft droppings. we always have new young players and everyone there is a little grabby anyway, so there’s never anything left behind. not all of us are so baller we have free magic cards lying around medina.
and regarding buying boxes, i do. i like it. maybe its because i like playing a wide variety of decks and i switch decks often, but i like have a broad spectrum of cards. if i preorder playsets here and there, every time i switch decks it costs me money. for example, if i figure $10 for each shockland and i want them all (which i did), i needed $200 for RTR and $200 for GTC. now do I want a set of anything thats preselling for $20? there’s another 80. i’ve just spent almost $500 and have 44 cards. I’d rather spend that on 5 boxes, get 72 rares/mythics plus a few random foils not to mention a shit ton of utility uncommons, and use some of that to trade for the remaining stuff i need. i dunno, maybe i have a lot to learn, but i’m not in this game for the finance exclusively so i don’t look at exclusively financial value on every purchase. i get some personal value out of opening packs with friends, getting variety, and trading for the stuff i still need to chase. thats all fun to me but doesn’t have a financial “value.”
“shout out to”*BOOM* – they all died.
Listening to Scott try to defend that buying a playset of commons/uncommons is “value” gave me a migraine. other than that, great cast.
I just saw Argo….thanks Canada
The cast was great like usual. It was nice to listen to Sal talk about the finance of Magic and how he runs the tournaments as a TO. You guys and girls in Canada are lucky to have such a generous TO as Sal. I have made the top 8 of PTQs and have not received a pack. I had to bother the TO for a week for a freaking dumb pin.
Keep grinding KYT. It is just a matter of time. Just keep up the commitment to the game and it will pay off.
Boosh- Point drafting is really fun to switch things up with, thanks.
I just discovered spinach with little pieces of bacon in it. This is the new taco salad for gringos. hi neil.
Glad to hear everyone back together…plus Sal who was great. I buy a box every new set, so I guess I’m a dumb-ass. BOOM at the end SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME (while doing 80 on NJ Turnpike) Thanks for that
Best thing about Medina and consequently Sal is that they are honest (at least I think so ) about whats HOT and whats NOT giving us some great insite into the minds of the dealers
great cast guys, nice to hear you all together again, and adding Sal was awesome too. i don’t spec in the true sense, but it’s nice to know what to ask as throw ins if you guys think it might bump. @jayboosh was on point again, no one rant like you man.
just a comment about Uncommon/Common playsets. i’ve been back in the game since Xth Edition/Lorwyn and early on i started buying them for every set. i get them from a source for $25 USD and the are great value. every set has at least one uncommon worth a few dollars, and you don’t need more than a couple of those to get full value out of the purchase. RTR alone had 10 cards worth $1 or more on release, which means i bought they playsets for less than the cards were worth, but my dealer is an awesome dude, so he didn’t bump the price. the other thing buying playets does is allows me to take all the extra U/C’s that i gather in pre-releases, drafts and winnings and put them right into a trade binder. all those chase uncommon for deck building? local players that don’t buy playsets trade them off me and i can trade up to rares in their binders. when RTR dropped i was trading U/C’ for shocks, Abrupt Decay, Dreadbore and other rares that i didn’t even to buy. trash to treasure guys. easy money.
keep it going strong to 150 and beyond boys. #CanadianMagic
Awesome episode! #moreMedina!
Here’s a way to give Value draft some teeth.
Everyone brings 45 quarters to the draft.
The quarters represent the points.
When you spend the points, the quarters go in a cup. When you put points on the zero card, the quarters come from the cup.
Draft as normal in Value draft. Winner of the draft gets all the quarters in the cup (so in a 4 person draft, someone is walking out with 45 bucks)
