30 seconds in, and already I hear Medina say something stupid. New record I think.
I appreciate that you would want to have interesting deck names but I think part of the advantage to clearly named decks is removing some of the barriers to entry for high level play. A guy getting into higher level tournament play is going to be able to follow the game better if he sees Naya Humans vs. Esper Control then if he sees two decks named wacky things like “Motorcycle Wheelies vs. Snake Tattoo”. Sometimes the simple clean answer is the easiest one for getting the point across, be creative in your card choices and lines of play.
Otherwise, awesome episode as always. I didn’t mind last weeks episode, but I’m a limited guy so that makes sense. Excited about Martell next week. Good job guys!
Nice to get some standard analysis, mostly because I understand way more about Standard than Modern.
Definitely some audio issues towards the end, but long distance chatting will do that I guess.
Enjoying Medina’s view a lot (I love Commander and wacky decks), but of course Jay overshadows all. Keep ‘em coming!
Just for clarity I think Boros Reckoner is awesome. The problem is that it’s a regular rare in packs we’re still opening. Not a Mythic, a regular rare. Where Arcbound Ravager comes in is that it’s basically the all time most expensive in print regular rare. I know for a fact they went for a 20 spot when I was playing in that format. All the time, every time they were worth at least 20. Accounting for 10 years worth of inflation it’s a pretty easy comparison between $20 Ravagers (the basis of an entire deck) and $30 Reckoners (really cool but definitely not the basis of a deck AND a post mythic rare).
To me, Reckoner is a $20 card and thus is being over-valued at the moment.

CardboardWitch Actually Ravagers were about $35 at one point, at least in my neighborhood.
@mtgmedina You guys just make it fun, and easy! Keep the suggestions coming!
Man I love being able to listen to this cast while on vacation or on days off. Makes it tons of fun.
Yeah Burning tree emissary, Boros reckoner, flinthoof boar is good stuff. The stuff in this latest build is crazy. That dang Wolfir Silverheart making a comeback I see. These Naya lists and the Red/Green Saito deck are freaking nuts, it’s disgusting.
Dang Madcap Skills showing its prowess again. This is hilarious. That’s KYT’s favorite card right now. The Emissary in the deck is just fucking bonkers, it’s awesome. And Jay is naming his own cards, this shit is hilarious. Champion of the old ways. I find it just entertaining that Volcanic Strength is the hot new tech for this deck. I have a shit ton of those just sitting around. Shoot I have most of this deck just sitting around here. I might have to build some standard stuff.
The Medina finance tweets are quite helpful. The stuff he talks about and tweets about is the stuff I make I either already havy te, or sell high, or avoid. Once he posts it these people go nuts for it. The Reckoner is good, but I am definitely not paying 20+ for this guy, that’s just not smart finance. He is seeing a good amount of play and is getting bought up in force, but man I will not pay that much, to heck with that.
He seems like a middle management type of guy. He acts like he’s big business and a big man, but he doesn’t own the shop but he does have some direct reports. He’s definitely not entry level, but he’s also getting bossed around too.
A nicely timed Supreme Verdict sounds like it would wreck this. But of course Scott is talking about Esper Spirits, he fucking loves those kinds of decks. He super hard robot large for those. LOL but that list is exactly the kind of deck I would play too, so I am not going to hate at all on that. It definitely seems that either smashing face on turn 3 or 4 or wiping the board multiple times are the 2 ways you want to go. Since the spirits and the Blue white decks seem to have the most ways to deal with it, those might be the way to go if you’re looking at beating these types of decks.
But man these decks are speedy and very neat looking.
Blind Obedience is a great card. It definitely has its uses. But definitely needs to be applied correctly. Opponents creatures and artifacts coming in tapped is fantastic. I purchased a good amount of these for EDH decks.
Medina and Scott, plus everyone else, I can listen to awesome EDH talk for 2 hours or more. The Commander game was hilarious to watch. Seriously don’t shy away from the EDH talk, it’s great. The stuff you can do in an EDH game is crazy. My Pheldagrif deck is complete and was running in our games here on friday. It’s hilarious, I am running the Jace infinite loop along with stuff like enter the infinite omniscience palinchron etc. This stuff is fantastic.
@manadeprived @JayBoosh and @mtgmedina are an unstoppable team on this episode.
It’s insaaaane (not gar-baj)!
Jay and Medina were on point and agreed for this entire cast. I was amazed. KYT was trolling the shit out of guys and talked a good amount.
Don’t worry Medina. Hearing stuff about limited for 45 minutes was just fine. Hearing about EDH for a while on this cast was even better. Phenomenal even.
Oh and Madcap Skills should have a Z at the end. The picture should be of the rapper Mad Skillz, look it up.
Fuck not giving shout outs, Jay Boosh! I got a boggle shout out! My shout out has ninjutsu! My shout outs can only be blocked by other rogues! That’s right, I’m the Capsize Pro Karaoke Club Guy! Thanks Medina.
Also Less Medina
The auras version of Saito’s deck is exactly like Scotty said…inbred. I played the original mono red splash green and it was the nuts…went 4-0.the one with 18 lands and all the auras on the other hand sucked…went 1-3
I just finished listening and I’m SOOO Stoked that I got shouted out for my Professional Karaoke Boat!!!
Spent the last day catching up from Episode 111, you def need #MoreMedina or at least #AllJay, that guy is hilarious.
